I'm too lazy to check (have to start and wait for the long dialup process,
with the modem's wailing and shrieking and all). So how big is it? And is
it possible to download just selected components like the wordprocessor,
for instance?

I thought StarOffice is payware. Or is it now free again (as was v5)?

Another general question: For software that is available for
free downloading from a particular developer's site, is it an offence for
us to burn them to CD's and distribute it to others? If it isn't, then what
about an entrepreneur who downloads free software, burns them to a CD and
SELLS them?

TIA

That is definitely an offence. Most licenses of freeware will state clearly
they are not to be sold for profits. So people who bundle the CDs usually
only charge for duplication/distribution costs, but not the costs of the
software itself.

Even some software which claimed to be a freeware doesn't allow you to use
it in the business / office or use it to gain profit indirectly.

it, running Fedora Core 1. Rarely booting into my XP partition now and am
no longer totally depending on Windows for my "works".. tho' I do have
Crossover Office installed to run some Windows applications :) BTW, nak

Hmm... my binary compressed file is around 120MB big .. so surely I'll not
advice you to download it from the website. Get somebody with a highspeed
net connection to download it for you :)

it depends on the license. some forbid distribution, some are Ok
and some are silent on the distribution charges. most non-open source
freewarse said you can't sell the software. for some software like
open office, you can burn it to a CD and sell it for thousands
of RM (if you can find a buyer).
